Understanding Sclerotherapy

Do you often hide your legs because of the way they look?  We may be able to help!  We can perform an injectable therapy called Sclerotherapy on certain approved types of veins.  We would first want to complete a complimentary consultation so we could assess the affected area and determine if treatment would be safe.  Spider veins look like tiny red or blue bursts that look like tiny webs on the ankles and upper thighs.  Anyone can get spider veins, but vein problems tend to be hereditary.  Other factors that can affect veins include:

  • Pregnancy, hormones, and birth control pills
  • A job that requires standing or sitting a lot
  • Extra weight or lack of exercise
  • Age

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure performed by one of our nurses where a sclerosant (pharmacy compounded saline/glycerine solution) is injected into a vein to entirely obliterate it.  The sclerosant damages the innermost lining of the vessel resulting in a clot that blocks the circulation in the vein beyond.   If we are able to treat your veins, we charge by the treatment time needed.  Healthy people who complain of unsightly spider veins of small caliber are typically good candidates for Sclerotherapy.  Please note large veins may need more comprehensive treatment or surgery and we would then refer you to a Vein Specialist.
